8th Annual Institute for Effective Teaching and Learning W hat is the Institute for Effective Teaching and Learning (IETL)?The 8th Annual Institute for Effective Teaching and Learning is a series of 55 two-day, one-credit courses developed by the College of Education’s Center for School Improvement & Policy Studies. The Institute offers educators, parents, and community members access to the latest research-based instructional strategies, approaches, and programs to improve their classrooms and schools and better prepare students. The two-day intensive courses are designed and taught by state and nationally-recognized scholars and practitioners, including Idaho Teachers and Principals of the Year, National Board Certified teachers, and other award-winning educators. W hen and where are the courses?T he courses for Summer 2004 will run for two consecutive days—Mon/Tues or Wed/Thurs—during the weeks of June 7-10, June 14-18, June 21-25, June 28-July 1, July 6-9, July 12-16, July 19-23, July 26-30 and August 2-3. There will be a limited number of Fri/Sat courses if this is the best option for you.All courses are scheduled from 8:30 a.m.-5:00 p.m. in two-day time blocks unless otherwise noted, and are held in a variety of locations on the Boise State University Campus and other valley locations as noted. Opening Student’s Mathematical Minds Through Children’s Literature Participants must be enrolled at Boise State to take an IETL course. Beginning April 1, returning Boise State Students can register online via BroncoWeb at http://broncoweb.boisestate.edu/ If you have never taken BSU courses or have not been enrolled during the previous semester, see Admission information on page 2 of the Boise State Summer Catalog. Upon registration, you will receive a user ID that you will use to register online through BroncoWeb. The registration deadline is one day prior to the course. All classes have enrollment caps. Early registration is encouraged. How is credit awarded? Participants may earn one hour of graduate or undergraduate pass/fail credit for successfully completing each course. Those registering for graduate credit pay $218.25 per credit ($194.25 credit fee + $24 processing fee). Undergraduate participants pay $181.50 per credit ($157.50 credit fee + $24 processing fee). Some courses have additional fees. Students should talk with their academic advisors about the applicability of these workshops toward graduate degrees. Attention Potential Instructors! We have started our planning for Summer 2005 and the 9th Annual Institute for Effective Teaching & Learning (IETL). We have submitted our final IETL proposals to the division of Extended Studies.
