Math Development Presentation (ppt)
Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI) The main theme underlying CGI is that all students come to school with informal knowledge of mathematics and by accessing that knowledge teachers will be able to teach for understanding. Curriculum in a CGI classroom is based on problem solving. As children solve problems, they invent strategies that may not be the sophisticated strategies the teacher would usually teach, however they are strategies that the child understands because they are based upon that child’s informal knowledge.
